Saint-Maximin la Sainte-Baume, in the heart of Provence Verte (or green Provence), is ideally located at the crossroads to the Var coast and the Verdon aera.
Situated in a wine growing region, surrounded on one side by La Sainte-Baume, and on the other by La Sainte-Victoire, which inspired so much the famous painter Cezanne, the city has an important position in the history of Christianity. Its Basilica, masterpiece of gothic provencal art, shelters the relics of Saint Mary –Magdalene, who spent her last 30 years in the cave in La Sainte-Baume mountain, which makes this part of the region an important pilgrimage destination.
This is the best place to depart for a tour to the Sainte Baume or Sainte Victoire mountains, the Thoronet abbey or the Verdon canyon.
There are also many sport activities to practice and several golf courses in a radius of 12 miles, one of which is the” Open Golf Club de la Sainte-Baume”, located at 7 miles.
